Web on the Go

Let's put it this way - my Phone has Bluetooth, and I find it completely useless. I have never, not even once, gone online with it. I don't pay for the service. I use it to - *gasp* - make phone calls. I'm not that big a web surfer and even tend to spend my weekends unconnected. Occasionally, I remember to check my e-mail on a day off.

Regardless of all that, it is pretty nifty to be able to connect anywhere, at anytime, if you want to. I think the OCLS mobile site is pretty sweet, but also obviously isn't meant to be viewed in a portrait format. Facebook and Twitter, to me, seemed unusable in the emulator. I'm pretty familiar with the general log-in page of Facebook, and still found it hard to navigate. I think both Flickr and the Weather Channel did a great job with their formatting.

I've never fielded a question about using a mobile device. I did have one lady ask me how to take pictures with her cell phone. This was while I wasn't wearing my badge, I was just roaming around on a break and she said I looked young and "hip to all this new technology." So, I showed her and she was very happy. I'm not sure if that counts as scoring one for the library, or just for the young-ish generation.
